Taddle Creek Montessori School opened in September, 1998. It is affiliated with High Park Centennial Montessori School, a house for children since 1967.

Like the first Casa dei Bambini which was founded by Dr. Maria Montessori in 1907 in Rome, ours is a house for children -- not a classroom, but a community. It is a special learning environment designed for your child to touch, experience, care for and learn from.

Taddle Creek Montessori School is an independent Montessori school, employing AMI and MACTE accredited teachers. AMI (Association Montessori Internationale) is the worldwide organization founded by Dr. Maria Montessori in 1929 to set international standards in Montessori education. MACTE (Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education) is a North American accreditation council.  Taddle Creek Montessori School is a member of the Canadian Council of Montessori Administrators.

Taddle Creek Montessori School was founded by area residents Brent Lisowski and Brenda Hebert, who own High Park Centennial Montessori School and have been affiliated with it since its inception. Brenda’s and Brent’s children, Anne, Michael and Christopher, received their first schooling at HPCMS.

Gail O'Gorman, Principal of Taddle Creek Montessori School, leads a staff which is well-qualified and experienced to ensure that the children receive the very best education in a Montessori environment that encourages independence, celebrates all cultures and develops the skills and attitudes that lead to a life-long love of learning.

Within steps of the University of Toronto campus and the Royal Ontario Museum, our house was built in 1893 during the early development period of the Annex and was first occupied by Arthur Coleman, a professor, and his family. It has been listed as an historical site since 1974. The building has been completely renovated to provide five spacious classrooms, an indoor recreation area and an outdoor playground.

The house has lots of warmth and charm, making it a comfortable learning environment for your child. Dr. Maria Montessori described the classroom as a graceful living space, a prepared environment carefully designed to offer beauty, order and reality to the child.

The School takes its name from Taddle Creek, a mostly underground stream which flows through the Annex, crossing Spadina Road just north of Lowther, then making its way through the University of Toronto campus and emptying into Lake Ontario.

School Hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Half-day sessions for our Primary Program are from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

We also offer a Before and After School Program. If enrolled in our Before-School program, children may arrive at School after 8:00 a.m.; our After-School program allows your child to remain at School between 3:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. for games and outdoor play. Children may participate in these programs on a monthly or yearly basis.
